Congratulations to our 2025 Educator of the Year, Jennifer Berndt!

Jennifer Berndt is a proud Clarence alumnus who has devoted 31 years to teaching at her alma mater. Inspired by a moment as a fifth-grade student where she helped a classmate problem solve, she knew from an early age that teaching would be her lifelong passion. Over the years, Jennifer has taught a variety of math courses ranging from general math to Algebra Regents, Geometry Regents and Non-Regents, and even Honors Algebra 2; tailoring lessons to students of all levels and abilities.

Jennifer met her husband at Clarence High School as a student, and they raised their family in the same town. Jennifer and her husband Tim watched both daughters, Mikayla and Morgan, graduate from Clarence Schools. In addition to classroom teaching, Jennifer has served as a co-advisor for Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) for more than 25 years, mentoring students and fostering positive change in the community.

One of Jennifer’s strengths as an educator includes her innate ability to foster meaningful connections with her students. Jennifer is deeply committed to education, students, and the Clarence district, bringing enthusiasm and expertise to every lesson and supporting students both academically and personally. Her dedication continues to make a lasting impact in the lives of students and colleagues alike.

Congratulations to our 2025 Volunteer of the Year,

Congratulations to our 2025 Volunteer of the Year, Scott Medole!

Scott has called Clarence his home since 1976, when his family moved from Akron, NY. Scott is a 1980 graduate of Clarence High School and a 1984 graduate of SUNY Fredonia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Following his college graduation, Scott answered a higher calling by serving his country in the United States Air Force as an emergency room medic. After getting an honorable discharge in 1989, Scott returned to Clarence and joined the family insurance business, working alongside his father and mother, Norman and Nancy Emerling.

Scott’s contributions to the Clarence community extend far beyond his professional life. For the past 40 years, he has been a dedicated member of the Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company, where he serves as a second-generation fireman and is the fire company’s co-Chaplain. Scott is also an active member of the Clarence Chamber of Commerce, a past original member of the Eastern Hills Sunrise Rotary Club, a supporter of local credit unions North Towns and Niagara's Choice, and a tireless advocate for community events by promoting local businesses on Facebook. He volunteers as a ride medic on several local bicycle groups including “Discover Main Street, Clarence NY” rides from the Clarence Hollow Farmers' Market during the summer. His passion for giving back extends to his faith as a hospitality minister at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.

When Scott isn’t volunteering, he enjoys staying active through biking, playing Pickle Ball, skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking the Adirondack High Peaks, and golfing. Scott is a self-proclaimed pro euchre player and also loves spending quality time with his family. His daughter, Amanda, a school guidance counselor at Casey Middle School in Williamsville, and his son, Austin, a wood-cutter at California Closets and chef at Morluski's, are his pride and joy. Scott thanks God every day for blessing him with wonderful children.

Congratulations to our 2025 Organization of the Year, Go To Girls, Inc.! @gotogirlsinc716

GO TO GIRLS, INC. (501c3) was founded during the pandemic by a group of Clarence, NY moms who found support in one another during a time of uncertainty. This not-for-profit organization made up of caring, concerned, hard working women think no family should ever feel alone - especially when they are in need. Go To Girls, Inc. (GTG) uses its strategic partnerships within the school district and community organizations to provide support, necessities, or whatever may be needed by identified kids and families in our community. GTG believes that being a kid is hard enough without having to worry about basic needs and go-to-acts of kindness is what they do.

GTG has several thriving programs that help to lessen the burden on those in our community, including:
• Bundles of Love: GTG provides new coats, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots to children who are confidentially identified by school resources.
• Birthday Bags: GTG provides items needed for a birthday party - ingredients to make a cake, balloons, a $5 gift card, etc. They are available to those that use the services of the Clarence Food Pantry.
• Annual Kindness Award: GTG gives this award to (2) Clarence High School graduating seniors that exemplify the characteristics of kindness.
• Go To Acts of Kindness: GTG is a resource for the district's Family Support Center when resources might not be available for special circumstances.

Go To Girls, Inc. is very proud of their work and continues to look for ways to drive their mission forward.

Congratulations to our 2025 Small Business of the Year, Morluski’s Restaurant! @morluskis

Morluski’s Restaurant Morluski’s began in 2017. When a small restaurant in Attica closed, the thought came to me. Why don’t I open it as a restaurant? My husband Domenic said OK! We took the opportunity, never having any experience in the restaurant or food industry but in the child care business for 25yrs. We started the remodeling and when we opened it became very successful. The Morluski’s name is a combination of our Polish and Italian heritage, Domenic being Italian and I, Jeannine, being Polish. It suited well for our Menu of Italian and Polish cuisine. In 2020 the opportunity arose in Clarence to open the 150 yr. old red brick Church of Christ that had been vacant for years. We started remodeling with many delays and setbacks when the Pandemic hit. But we persevered. In October 2020, Morluski’s Restaurant opened on Main Street in the Clarence Hollow. We are very proud to be a family orientated local business and with my husband Domenic by my side, (Yes! Dear.) In the kitchen our sons Brandon and Randy prepare homemade pasta and pierogi’s along with cooking beside me. In 2021 we were awarded The Polish American Business owner of the year presented by The General Polaski Association. Proudly! Then we won the Silver Spoon Award for three consecutive years 2021, 2022, 2023 at the Taste of Clarence. What a thrill! Our unique bar serves specialty dinner cocktails. Our flamingo décor, stain glass windows, authentic Church interior, along with an outdoor patio, cozy fireplace and music, are here to express joy, happiness and blessings to our patrons. I wish to thank our community, patrons, and Morluski’s team for our continued success. A special thank you with great gratitude to the Clarence Chamber of Commerce & community for nominating Morluski’s Restaurant for small business of the year 2025.

Congratulations to our 2025 Lifetime Achiever of the Year, Linda Zakrzewski!

Linda Zakrzewski has shaped her life around helping others. As a Public teacher for 36 years, Linda strove to teach her students the skills they would need to be successful in life, while instilling in them a sense of pride and community involvement by beginning a Junior National Honors Society program for the students at Buffalo Public School 81's and starting the school’s first Girl Scout troop. Upon moving to Clarence in 2002, Linda dove right in and immersed herself in as many community volunteer opportunities as she could. She taught religious education for 16 years, volunteered for countless church events, and has recently begun helping with Meals on Wheels. One of Linda's earliest contributions to the Clarence community was her involvement in scouting. Linda became a Girl Scout leader for both of her daughter's troops, and an active participant in her son's Boy Scout troop. Over time she became the Service Unit Leader of the Clarence Girl Scouts, Service Unit Campout Director, and took on several Girl Scout troops in need of a leader. At a time when many parents would be phasing out their volunteering as their children grew up and went off to college, Linda was just ramping up. In 2015 she started a Girl Scout Day camp program at Camp Windy Meadows, staffed entirely by volunteers. It is a place where girls can come for an affordable camp experience that is girl driven and girl led, teaching leadership and empowerment to the next generation of Girl Scouts. When asked about Linda, community members will tell you about her enthusiasm, her inspiration to the young women in our community, and how if you need help, she will be there, with a big smile on her face and plan to get it done.
